Environmental Governance Programme (EGP)

Environmental Governance Programme (EGP)

The Programme has been effectively functioning in the Centre of Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) Since 2011. The primary goal is to promote institutional capacity development and community empowerment, participatory natural resources management, resilience of people and ecosystems, and enhancement of sustainable livelihoods, with specific focus on women and youth.

It revolves around five cross-cutting themes, each addressing crucial aspects of environmental governance. These themes include rural development and food security, climate resilience and nature-based solutions, waste governance and circular economy, biodiversity conservation and rangeland development, and Community empowerment.

We take pride in our pioneering achievements. For instance, we managed to register the Geographical Indication (GI) for the first time in Egypt, ensuring the protection and recognition of unique local products (Matrouh Figs, Matrouh Barrani Grapes, and Matrouh Olives).  Additionally, we are designing and implementing nature-based solutions for water and ecosystem resilience in Egypt, contributing to sustainable water management and environmental conservation.
