Al-Murunah Project Regional Workshop: Resilient Nature-based Water Solutions for the Nile Delta
The Environmental Governance Programme Regional Director, Dr. Amr Abdelmegeed, and the Community Development Expert, Eng. Galal Maowod are attending the regional workshop for Al-Murunah Project: Building Climate Resilience through Enhanced Water Security in the MENA. The workshop is scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan, from March 4th to 6th, 2024, it also includes the project’s implementing partners from Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine.
As part of the project’s restless effort to harness Nature-based Solutions (NBS) for enhancing water security in the MENA region, the workshop aims to showcase and exchange the project’s achieved milestones with the other implementing partners and stakeholders. It seeks to facilitate in-depth discussions on RNBWS characteristics and interactions with various systems. Furthermore, the workshop encourages knowledge exchange to promote the project’s key themes, plan for forthcoming activities, and prioritize feasible upscaling.
During the workshop, CEDARE and IWMI jointly presented the project’s progress and achievements in developing on-the-ground technical and socio-economic interventions to employ resilience-based nature-based solutions (RNBS) to promote water security and combat climate vulnerability in the Nile Delta. Al-Murunah is a five-year regional project by the United Kingdom the government, Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) to promote resilient nature-based solutions in the MENA region. The project is currently implemented in four countries: Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. CEDARE and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) are collaborating to implement resilient nature-based interventions to mitigate the climate risks threatening the local ecosystem, irrigation water availability, and agricultural practices.
