Sustainable Water Management Improves Tomorrow’s Cities’ Health
(2006-2011), (SWITCH-EU-CEDARE), The project was implemented by different combinations of consortium partners, organized in six complementary and interactive research themes. The project includes a number of demonstration activities, to be carried out in several cities. In each of the demonstration cities, a Learning Alliance has been or will be established. The SWITCH approach to Urban Water Management is aimed at solving the challenge of water management in the city of the future. The SWITCH project includes a number of demonstration activities, to be carried out in 10 identified SWITCH Demonstration Cities. These cities are: Accra, Alexandria, Beijing, Belo Horizonte, Birmingham, Chongqing, Hamburg, Lodz, Tel Aviv and Zaragossa. In addition, the Emscher Region of Germany is participating, and a Learning Alliance has been established in Lima, Peru. The Development of an Integrated Urban Water Management Plan for the City of Alexandria was conducted in this project.

The purpose of including these demonstration cities is to translate the results of the SWITCH research activities into tangible, socially-relevant demonstration activities. During the project, feedback from the Learning Alliance is used to determine the scope of the demonstration activities. An Integrated Urban Water Management Plan for the City of Alexandria was conducted as well.
