CEDARE Concluded its Activities at the 5th Arab Water Forum, Dubai, UAE
CEDARE organized three sessions and participated on the panel of 2 other sessions. CEDARE Regional Director for Water Resouces, Khaled AbuZeid, presented CEDARE studies on “Transboundary Climate-Water Nexus”, “Challenges of Transboundary Water Cooperation”, “Sharing Blue & Green Water in the Nile Basin”, “Reflections on the Impacts of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)”, “2020 State of the Water in the Arab Region”, and “Progress on SDG 6 in the Arab Region”.
Highlights of the 2020 Arab State of the Water indicate that 18 out of 22 Arab countries are now below the water scarcity limit of 1000 m3/person/year of “Blue” renewable water Resouces. 13 Arab countries are now below the severe water scarcity limit of 500 m3/person/year.
In the Arab region, 48 million people lack basic drinking water services, and 71 million people lack basic sanitation services.
