UNEP intends to partner with the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) due to their inherent research and technical experience on sustainable transportation issues and close linkages to relevant government institutions in Arab countries. UNEP has worked with CEDARE in the development of regional fuel quality roadmap for the League of Arab States (LAS) and organized a regional Fuel Quality Meeting for the League of Arab States in Cairo. CEDARE has also supported several countries in promoting fuel economy in Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco. Activities in this SSFA build upon the foundation of the work and network in the Middle East and West Asia (MEWA) region by CEDARE through the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV) and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) over the past years.
