WMRA, CEDARE and UNEP Co-convene the Second Round-table on “Plastic Pollution Control” in Cairo

As part of Egypt’s restless efforts to align with the international actions led by UNEP to eliminate plastic pollution, today’s round-table over-viewed the potential implications of operationalizing a legally binding international instrument and the resolutions that could be taken to address the full life cycle of plastic and achieve sustainable consumption and production of plastic products.

Discussions also involved the different views of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) negotiations representing the Egyptian side from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and the Ministry of Trade and Industries.

The event, which comes in the framework of SwitchMed II project (Policy Component) funded by the European Union, delivered three enriching panels on: “Egypt’s Petrochemical and plastic industries under the international treaty”, “Proposed provisions outlining the technical aspects of the treaty” and “the Proposed obligations arising from the treaty”.
