Egypt’s Final Draft Roadmap on Blue Economy in the Pipeline
On December 3rd, 2023, a virtual meeting was co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and CEDARE to review and discuss Egypt’s draft Roadmap on Blue Economy. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Tourism, relevant NGOs and specialized experts attended this consultation, which was the third in a row. Following their contribution in providing valuable data on the national state of eco-tourism as one of the main pillars of blue economy, the participants gave their feedback on the formulated document. This version of the roadmap will be soon updated to a more refined version addressing the comments of the working group from the environment and tourism sectors.
Egypt’s Ministry of Environment sets the Blue Economy Roadmap as a priority for the reinforcement of sustainable coastal and marine ecotourism and protecting the country’s rich biodiversity and natural resources and fostering climate change resilience.
This activity comes under Egypt’s SwitchMed Project (Policy Component) to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Consumption and Production, Circular Economy and BlueEconomy. The Project is a collaboration between CEDARE and the وزارة البيئة المصرية – Ministry of Environment, with the support of UN Environment Programme and SwitchMed; the EU-funded programme.
