Implementation of activities within the Resource Efficiency and the Environment Governance Programmes
CEDARE provides extensive support across knowledge management, capacity building, and technical expertise to advance UNEP’s environmental projects in the West Asia region. Key activities include developing knowledge products for various audiences and translating into Arabic; providing expert advisory services for policy documents and scientific reviews; mobilizing external consultants and experts; supporting awareness campaigns on sustainability topics; and reviewing, editing and strengthening technical reports and analyses underpinning UNEP initiatives.

Objectives
The purpose of this partnership with CEDARE is to advance the production and sharing of environmental knowledge with the region’s actors to enhance behavioural change aiming at advancing UNEP West Asia environmental agenda and strategy. The project will contribute to the following specific activities:
- The Green Gulf Initiative: The Green Gulf Initiative aims to develop guidelines and assessments to improve coastal management, chemicals management, air quality, and environmental outlooks in GCC countries.
- Reducing pollution through consumption choice – green tech: The Qatar green tech project focuses on adopting technologies and measuring food waste to reduce pollution and achieve climate goals.
- Improving Environmental Data in CCA (WESR): The WESR project will strengthen environmental data inputs to UN Common Country Analyses and Cooperation Frameworks for West Asia.
- Establishing Environment Information System in Iraq: The Iraq project aims to establish an integrated environmental information system to enhance monitoring and reporting capabilities related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements.
