Implementation of activities within the Finance and Economic Transformations and the Climate action Programmes in West Asia Region
The purpose of this partnership with CEDARE is to advance the production and sharing of environmental knowledge with the region’s actors to enhance behavioral change aiming at advancing UNEP West Asia environmental agenda and strategy. The SSFA will contribute to the following specific activities and projects:
- The Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs)
- Low Carbon Strategy 2050 for the State of Kuwait
- Sustainable Consumption and Production National Action Plan for the State of Kuwait
The project involves policy advisory support to the UNEP West Asia Office through expert review and mobilizing consultancies. It also includes design, conceptualization and production of knowledge products with a focus on sustainable consumption and production and low carbon pathways.

Objectives
- The Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs) GO4SDGs aims to accelerate the necessary progress to meet the 2030 Agenda, especially for SDG 12 (Sustainable Consumption and Production) and SDG 8 (Decent Work & Green Economies). The Initiative builds partnerships to connect global initiatives with regional needs and solutions addressing governments, SMEs and Youth. The GO4SDGs activities fall under the Finance and Economic Transformations Programme implemented by UNEP and revolve around thematic areas such as food waste, sustainable fashion, and plastics with a Sustainable Consumption and Production angle.
- Low Carbon Strategy 2050 for the State of Kuwait. The overall objective is to support UNEP in drafting a low carbon strategy for the State of Kuwait, including contributing to produce guiding document, solid analysis and transparent methodologies, which sets out the path towards a low-greenhouse gas (GHG) emission future across the economy.
- Sustainable Consumption and Production National Action Plan for the State of Kuwait. The overall objective is to support UNEP in drafting the Sustainable Consumption and Production National Action Plan for the State of Kuwait, including contributing to produce roadmap, policy recommendations, monitoring plan, and scenarios analysis.

Relevance to SDGS
The outcomes of expert review of policies and strategies as well as conceptualization and production of knowledge products related to sustainable consumption, production and low carbon development would support the achievement of SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) in West Asia. The project’s contribution to decent work and green economies also supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
