Regional Consultation Meeting
CEDARE in collaboration with UN Environment, International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) organized the Regional Consultation Meeting on Waste Management Outlook for West Asia on the 27th & 28th of June 2018 at the Holiday Inn City Stars, Cairo – Egypt.
The final draft Waste Management Outlook for West Asia was extensively reviewed by country representatives.
The regional outlook “focused on waste management systems, finance and governance, articulating a means of future sustainable waste management progress. The outlook is set within themes that make use of circular economy, waste as resource, driving regional economic growth through multi-stakeholder involvement and a range of investment opportunities”. The outlook assessed and covered 12 countries: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates & Yemen. Participating governmental representatives in charge of waste management files reviewed and gave their feedback and commented on the data associated with their countries. In parallel, the consultation meeting aimed at browsing available environmental and economic opportunities required for countries to turn into a sustainable waste management system.
