Roundtable on Phasing out Leaded Gasoline in Iraq and Promoting Vehicle Fuel Efficiency Policies
A national Iraqi Workshop on Improving fuel quality and a Roadmap for Achieving Euro 5 targets on Fuels and Vehicle Emission Standard was held in Singapore on 29th -30th of August 2016, co-organized by UNEP-PCFV, UN-Environment Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP ROWA), Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA), and Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE).
The workshop objective was to assist key Iraqi officials in developing an action plan to completely phase out lead in petrol and introduce low-sulphur fuels in the country. These objectives included supporting the existing progress/effort in fuel quality improvement, barriers, understanding the needs and the following objectives;
- Develop roadmap to move towards Euro V Fuels and Vehicle Emission standards, with interim targets.
- Raise awareness on complementary cleaner and efficient vehicle policies, such as vehicle emission standards and fuel economy policies and case studies on refinery upgrades
