Egypt State of the Environment Report (SOER) 2017               

The project involves developing Egypt’s 2016 state of the environment (SOE) report in partnership with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA). The report follows best Integrated Environmental Assessment (EIA) practices for environmental reporting to ensure it is credible, legitimate, relevant and accessible. It reflects national priorities like climate change, circular economy and waste management. The report aims to analyse key environmental trends to support policymaking and actions for environmental protection in Egypt.

The Egypt State of Environment Report 2017 was produced in alignment with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). The report monitors progress on environmental indicators across these SDG issue areas, identifying key challenges Egypt faces in achieving the SDGs like water scarcity, energy access, sustainable infrastructure, resource efficiency, climate resilience, marine ecosystem health, and terrestrial biodiversity. The report’s production and monitoring efforts support Egypt’s aim to implement coordinated policies and programs to attain the SDGs and ensure a sustainable future.
