Healthy Ecosystem for Rangeland Development (HERD) Jordan & Egypt

Cedare in collaboration with IUCN and the Desert Research Center, the وزارة البيئة المصرية – Ministry of Environment (Egypt) and the الصندوق الهاشمي لتنمية البادية الأردنيةHashemite Fund for Badia Development, the Royal Botanical Garden (Jordan) and the Ministry of Agriculture (Jordan), وزارة الزراعة الاردنية successfully implemented the Global Environment Facility (GEF)- funded HERD project in Jordan and Matruh (Egypt).

The Matruh component was Implemented by Cedare’s Environmental Governance Programme (EGP) and IUCN iin collaboration with the Matruh governorate.

The project implemented real change through:

– rehabilitation of 500 feddans using the ancient bedouin HIMA approach, (a native bedouin approach used for centuries to protect rangelands) . The name HIMA comes from the arabic word حمي which means protection.

-39 rain harvesting wells constructed

-Veterinary care for sheep, goats, and camels

-Economic empowerment through a revolving fund for women and youth

مشروع هيرد (HERD): في الأردن ومصر نظام بيئي صحي لتنمية المراعي

قام سيداري، بالتعاون مع الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة (IUCN) ومركز بحوث الصحراء ووزارة البيئة المصرية والصندوق الهاشمي لتنمية البادية والحديقة النباتية الملكية (الأردن) ووزارة الزراعة الأردنية، بتنفيذ مشروع HERD الممول من مرفق البيئة العالمي (GEF)، وذلك في كل من الأردن ومرسى مطروح (مصر).

شاهدوا الصور المذهلة (قبل وبعد) في مدينة مرسى مطروح، والتي تعكس التأثير الملموس لاستعادة التنوع البيولوجي ومكافحة التصحر وتحسين سبل العيش في مصر والأردن!

تم تنفيذ مكون مرسى مطروح في المشروع بواسطة برنامج الحوكمة البيئية (EGP) في سيداري والاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة (IUCN)، وبالتعاون مع محافظة مطروح.

لقد أحدث المشروع تغييرًا حقيقيًا من خلال:
• إعادة تأهيل 500 فدان باستخدام نهج الحِمى HIMA البدوي القديم، وهو نهج تقليدي استخدمه البدو لعدة قرون لحماية المراعي. تعني كلمة “حِمى” في اللغة العربية “الحماية”.
• إنشاء 39 بئرًا لحصاد مياه الأمطار.
• تقديم الرعاية البيطرية للأغنام والماعز والإبل.
• تمكين اقتصادي للنساء والشباب من خلال صندوق دوّار.
